There's no reason to believe that he'll ever be better than he was in '20-'21. particularly in the age of most of the top players entering the league as teens the average nba player PEAKS at 27, meaning that their prime starts well before that. He's most certainly not just entering his prime. This is coming from a person who isn't even the biggest fan of Zach, but we need all-star calibre players on the roster, even if he isn't the ideal number one player to build around, you don't go from a playoff team to a hopeful championship team, trying to focus on getting an undisputed franchise player, and then building from there, where you would then need to add another star player or two on top of that player, so though there are some glaring holes on our roster, at least we have a good foundation to build upon. Now, the contract following this would cold end up being tricky, but a player, who is basically entering his prime right now on a max deal, I'm absolutely comfortable with it. Even with the pay bump, considering his age, and him continuing to get better, I don't think at any point of his contract extension would it ever be considered a horrendous deal. However, over the last month or so, there’s been buzz about LaVine potentially taking his talents. At the beginning of the 2021-22 season, it was a foregone conclusion Zach LaVine would eventually re-sign with the Chicago Bulls on a max contract. Jrue Holiday signed for 4/160 before the Bucks won a title. Examining potential destinations for Zach LaVine. GSW just won the title with Wiggins at a max contract which was just thought to be an albatross. are the bulls going to pay a lot of luxury tax to cover up the mistake of maxing out lavine? doubt it Plus, the teams that can win titles with bad contracts generally do so by paying a lot of luxury tax to cover up their mistakes. had the bulls given a max deal to jimmy butler instead of zach lavine. Had the sixers given a max deal to jimmy butler instead of tobias harris, maybe they're champs now. he will be a huge liability on a max deal the championship teams typically have high priced players who DESERVE the money. randomly throwing money around is foolish. You're stuck with a team for the next 3 seasons that may've already peaked and then in years 4 and 5, Zach is making almost $50 million so, unless you strip the team down to just Zach and a couple others, you've already priced yourself out of that market too.Ĭhampionship teams have multiple max players.Īnd so do some crap teams. Then you've got a complete unknown with the Lonzo situation. Vuc hasn't lived up to his hoped potential and may walk next year with no ability to replace. You're completely handicapping the roster to be rely on the unreliable.ĭeMar's on borrowed time and greatly outperformed this year. And the problem comes as, on that deal, that help will never be possible. His health reliability and inability to be the 1A player that they're paying him to be though, will never lead to a significant playoff run without other, more significant, help. Lavine is very good and, at times, great. I'm anti-Lavine on a max guaranteed contract. It does not store any personal data.Keloms wrote:I'm not anti-Lavine.
